FAQ

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. While focusing on a memory in a safe and supported way, we use gentle bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to help reduce the emotional intensity of what happened. Over time, many people find that distressing memories feel less overwhelming and more distant, allowing them to move forward with greater ease and resilience.
Silver Sage Psychotherapy is a private-pay practice, which means our work together is guided by your needs, goals, and pace, not insurance requirements or time limits. Insurance plans typically require a mental health diagnosis to authorize coverage, may place limits on the type, frequency, or duration of treatment they will cover, and can request access to portions of your clinical record as part of the reimbursement process.
The frequency of our sessions will be determined collaboratively, based on your individual needs, goals, and where you are in your healing journey.
Therapy is not only for times of crisis. Many clients start when they are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, disconnected, or stuck in patterns they no longer want to carry. Others just have a sense that something feels “off” and want support finding clarity and balance. Therapy provides a supportive space to explore what you’re experiencing, build coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.
That is completely okay. Many clients at Silver Sage Psychotherapy are beginning therapy for the first time. Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, unfamiliar, or even intimidating, especially if you are used to handling things on your own. The process moves at a pace that feels supportive and comfortable for you. Therapy is not about judgment or having all the answers, it’s about creating space for growth, healing, self-awareness, and meaningful change. When you’re ready, I’m here to support you in taking the next step.
